A Profile of Frank Noel

  • This is an essay Pearl wrote for an English Class assignment in the Spring term of her Freshman year at Cameron College. She was now 55 years old. This was written 7 years following Frank’s death(1953). See “About” section for details of their life together.

I am the youngest of seven children, fourth son of Daniel Franklin (Frank) and Zula Pearl (Pearl) Thornton Noel. I was born in June19, 1940, at home on our 360 acre dry land farm. Our home was located precisely nine miles west and three miles south of Grandfield, Oklahoma. Mama and I graduated from the same college, OBU, in the same class, 1963. I graduated from medical school in 1969. Practice over 40 years of family medicine and addiction medicine. I am now retired fully and find ample time to devote to this project. Mama was very private about her writing this large manuscript and did confide in me somewhat. She indicated that I should have possession the manuscript when she passed on. My wife and I decided that each of Mama's children should have a copy of the handwritten manuscript a few years following her death. My wife has typed approximately half of it, so now digitalized. Now, the burden is on my shoulders to publish as much of her writing as I can, with not much editing. Enjoy.

  1. With Mama Gran’s description, seems like I would know him. My mom has said she thought Andy, my oldest brother reminded her of him. She said she was little when Daddy Gran died, but distinctly remembers sitting in his lap, and him having talks with her. ♥️
    Thanks for posting!

    1. Hi Mary,
Thank you for visiting. And for your thoughtful comment. Are their siblings who may be interested in the website? I would like as many great grandchildren, of about 61, who are interested to visit. So, please invite all of them.
Is your mother doing well? Could you ask Dina to write me a brief Email if she is able and willing. It would be good to reconnect after so long . If she cannot would you let me know. My email is .
      Take care,
      Fondly,
Your “ Great” Uncle Ray 😘

    2. Hi Mary Dina,
It has been a while since hearing from you. Your comments from memories of your mother sitting on Frank’s lap and that you brother Andy reminds her of Daddygran are wonderful. I apologize for not commenting on it in our August communication.
We at the website have been busy posting Pearl’s writings of her earliest days. We up to her fifth year. Have you been visiting? We at the raynoel.wordpress.com website are about ready to send a formal email invitation to each of the progeny and cousins and friends of Pearl and Frank that we can find. Estimates are 80 to 100!
I would like to ask a favor.
Could you send me the email addresses for yourself and your siblings, including their full names. Your aunt Jean mentioned that your mother was having some health problems. It saddens me to hear it. Please give Dina my warm greetings when you speak with her. And tell her I am praying for her in her time of need. I would like to send her an invitation, if appropriate. So, provide her email, if you think it is okay.
      Take care.
      With love,
      Uncle Ray

  2. What a lovely tribute to your father. For a woman with an 8th grade education (initially), Pearl was a remarkable writer, so poignant. Seems as if a natural ability for written expression runs in the family. (:

    1. Thanks for looking in. Mama has been through a lot in her young life before Frank. And he was a beam of light and strength to her at 15 years.
Of course, he had been through a lot, as well. He saw some beauty and strength in her, and she saw this love and strength in him. Match made in heaven, as some might say.

    2. I suppose writing ability to express clearly is more gift than learned skill. So, is this where your writing gift comes from😊? Your Noel grandmother! 😁

      1. Wow, thanks for that very nice compliment. I’ve always been able to express myself more effectively in writing than verbally. It’s nice to know about something I may have inherited from Pearl. I didn’t know her yet I really look up to and admire her, thanks to all you’ve shared. 🥰
